Thailand’s New Digital Arrival Card Causes Confusion

Thailand is rolling out its new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) on 1 May, replacing the traditional TM6 arrival form. While intended to streamline border entry procedures, the launch has stirred confusion and frustration. Travellers are now required to fill in personal and travel details online before receiving a QR code for immigration, but unclear instructions and a non-functioning tutorial have left many perplexed.

There’s currently no confirmation on whether the digital card replaces the paper version entirely or if it doubles as a customs declaration. The new form is mandatory for all foreign nationals regardless of visa type, including those on visa-free entries and work permits.

As the launch date approaches, clarity is desperately needed. The TDAC is part of Thailand’s broader digitisation efforts, but without proper user guidance and official updates, the system risks becoming another layer of bureaucracy rather than a convenience.

With Thailand relying heavily on international tourism and business travel, smooth implementation of such digital tools is crucial.
